A man was  sentenced to 80 years in prison for the death of the son he kept locked in a cage.

Riley Choate, 40, kept his 13-year-old son, Christian, in a small dog cage for two years. He beat and abused the boy regularly,  eventually taking his life in 2009.

Choate and his wife, Kimberly, buried the boy’s body in a shallow grave near their home in Gary, Ind.

Investigators discovered his body in 2011. The boy weighed less than 50 pounds when he died.

His stepmother will be sentenced next month on child neglect charges.
