Ex-Chicago businessman Rana sentenced 14 years in case plot
A former Chicago businessman convicted of supporting terrorists in Pakistan was sentenced to 14 years in prison Thursday.
In 2011, Tahawwur Ran was convicted of plotting a terrorist attack on a Danish newspapers for publishing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. The attack was aborted.
Rana also was charged in connection with a string of bombings that killed 160 people in Mumbai, India in 2008. He was acquitted of those charges by a federal jury.
Two of Rana’s adult children expressed relief following the sentencing at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse, the Chicago Tribune reported.
