A South Side woman was killed when the Pace bus she was riding struck a light pole.

The bus driver swerved to avoid a pedestrian who ran out into traffic.

The accident happened Friday afternoon in the 4600 block of South Halsted Street about 12:35 p.m.

The victim was identified as 58-year-old Ella Williams of the 1700 block of West 85th Street.

She was taken to Stroger hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
