Reverend Fred Rajan found himself consoling an entire community of workers after 51-year-old Diane Shogren of suburban Ingleside died outside Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.

The registered nurse was walking into the hospital from one of its parking lots around 5:30am when a snow plow trying to clear the parking spots backed into her. She was pronounced dead inside the hospital 30 minutes later. The driver of the plow also works at Good Shepherd.

The Lake County sheriff’s department says it was snowing heavily at the time, and visibility was limited.

For now, the incident is under investigation and no tickets have been issued to the snowplow driver, who was also a hospital employee. An autopsy will be performed on Diane Shogren Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, Good Shepherd Hospital employees are consoling one another after unexpectedly losing one of its own on a cold and snowy morning.
