ROMEOVILLE, Ill.  — Amazon.com Inc. is planning to open a new 750,000 square-foot packaging and shipping center in Romeoville.

Officials at the e-commerce company announced its expansion plans Tuesday. Employees at the facility will pick, pack and ship large items, such as big-screen televisions, sports equipment or kayaks.

Vice president of Amazon’s North America operations, Akash Chauhan, says that expanding the company’s footprint in Illinois brings hundreds of full-time jobs with competitive pay and benefits to the state. The company is currently hiring for associate-level roles at the Romeoville fulfillment center.

Mayor John Noak says the city is pleased to welcome the company to Romeoville.

Amazon is advertising full-time fulfillment associate jobs at the Romeoville warehouse at $13 per hour, the Chicago Tribune reports.
