Armed robbers targeting CTA passengers, police say

CHICAGO -- Chicago police say two men have worked in tandem to rob at least three people at gunpoint on the CTA, also spraying one victim with pepper spray.

The robberies have happened over the last month at three separate “L” trains and platforms, including the 69th and Dan Ryan Red Line stop in late June, at 1000 West Fullerton this past Sunday, and the very next day at the Kimball stop.

“It's senseless, you could do many more things than to hurt innocent people,” said community activist Andrew Holmes, who was handing out flyers warning of armed robbers to CTA passengers.

One commuter, Richard Cowans, said he was robbed on the Brown Line last month.

“The guy with the gun drops it between the doors, picks it up, breaks out between the cars to meet his friend,” Cowans said, describing the scene.

After seeing the suspects’ photos on the news earlier today, Richard is almost positive they were the ones who stole his cell phone.
