Bond denied for Arlington Heights man charged with murdering wife

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — An Arlington Heights man has been charged with shooting and killing his wife as she walked into their home carrying their 1-year-old child.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that 42-year-old Jose Arturo Salgado-Roque has been charged with first-degree murder.

A judge denied bond for Salgado-Roque during a court appearance Tuesday.

The sheriff's department alleges that Salgado-Roque fatally shot 38-year-old Divina Salgado on Sunday afternoon at their Arlington Heights residence. She was about to walk up the wooden steps of her trailer, when police say her husband opened the door, pointed a gun at her, and shot her in the head -- standing just three to four feet away.
At the time she was holding their one year old baby, which fell to the ground.

Investigators identified Salgado-Roque as the suspect and took him into custody.

The couple's 1-year-old child and two other children were placed in the custody of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Salgado will be in court again Aug. 23.
