CHICAGO -- Friends and family are mourning the death of an Army veteran who was shot and killed over the weekend.
At 23, Abner Garcia had served his country in the Army. He came home to serve his community in Chicago and mentored at-risk youth with the YMCA.
Eddie Bocanegra of the YMCA Urban Warriors program calls Garcia “very magnetic.”
“He was young, vibrant and energetic,” Bocanegra said.
According to police, Abner was in a car with two friends, stopped at 52nd and Pulaski about 1:30 a.m. Saturday when a silver minivan pulled up. Someone inside that van fired just one shot, hitting Garcia in the head.

His funeral will be held Friday from 3 p.m. - 9 p.m. with a burial service Saturday at 9 a.m. at Lack and Sons Funeral Home, 9236 Roberts Rd in Hickory Hills.
