PARK FOREST, Ill. – Police are searching for suspects in a robbery that lead to a standoff in south suburban Park Forest Monday afternoon.

Shortly after noon, police were called to a burglary in progress in the 100 block of Hemlock St.

Witnesses told police the suspects had fled to a nearby house. Police quickly surrounded that house.

Around 8 p.m., authorities breached the home and found the suspects had fled. No one was inside.

Deputy Chief Christopher Mannino said members of the team that entered the home found “proceeds from the burglary inside the residence.”

Police shut down the streets connected to Hemlock St and asked some residents to evacuate.

Police are still looking for the burglars. They say they have a description of the suspects and leads.
