Couple left infants in car while gambling at casino in East Chicago, police say

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. -- A couple faces charges of leaving their young children in a car while they went inside a casino in northwest Indiana to gamble.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ameristar Casino in East Chicago.

Police say a 3-month-old baby and 1-year-old were found in distress and left alone inside a vehicle outside the casino.

The 30-year-old mother and 30-year-old father were later arrested and now face charges of child endangerment.

Police say the mother may have a previous case of child neglect and the father faces charges of public intoxication, according to The Times of Northwest Indiana.

Police did not release their names.
