CHICAGO — A 1-year-old girl who critically injured by a falling television last week has died.

Amilie Medina died Monday afternoon, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner. The cause of death has not been released.

On Thursday, Sept. 8, police responded to the 1200 block of West Van Buren on the Near West Side. The child was hurt at about 11 a.m.

Chicago police say this case is now a death investigation.

Television tip-over accidents are not uncommon. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says 25,000 children are injured each year from falling TV’s, furniture and appliances.

Parents should make sure to anchor and secure televisions and top heavy furniture.
