CHICAGO -- A 10-year-old is in "very critical" condition and six others were injured after an SUV hit the girl in the street and then crashed into the front porch of in Chatham Tuesday night, pinning her against the house in the process.
Witnesses say a maroon Nissan Pathfinder first struck one sedan, and then another, as it headed South down Vincennes near 80th St. Then they say the SUV hit the girl as she was walking down the street, as she is known to do, and swept her into the porch of a nearby house.
Then neighbors said they tried to assist the girl the driver continued to rev the engine, apparently still trying to get away.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, the girl was transferred to Comer Children's Hospital in very critical condition. Of the other injures, one was sent in serious condition to Christ Medical Center, one in stable condition to Roseland Community Hospital, and four others to Holy Cross and Trinity Hospitals.
