CHICAGO -- Police say this was no random attack. The victims knew their attackers and news of that doesn’t come as a surprise to some of their neighbors.
Angela Hernandez owns Danny Hair Studio next door to where the violent home invasion took place early this morning.
She also used to live in the apartment next door to the victims but decided to move a year ago. "I don’t feel secure, I don’t feel safe because they left the door open most of the time," said Hernandez.
Police say there were a total of seven people in the apartment in the 1800 block of West Chicago Avenue Wednesday morning.
Around 1 a.m., three people burst in with a baseball bat and started beating them. One of the attackers also showed a gun.
Three cellphones and $180 in cash were taken.
The most seriously injured was a 61-year old man who was hit in the head with a bat. He's in serious condition. Neighbors also say he was a cancer patient.
A 41-year old man was also hit in the head and is in stable condition. A 61-year old woman is also said to be stable after she was hit in the shoulder.
Another 61-year old woman is in good condition. And an 11-year old boy was taken to the hospital for evaluation after he was knocked over.
A 40-year old woman and a 13-year old girl were not injured but they had their cellphones taken.
Hernandez says police are always being called to the victim’s apartment for family arguments and she, like the police, doesn’t believe this was a random attack.
No arrests have been made.
