Off-duty Chicago police officer killed in crash

FOREST VIEW, Ill. -- An off-duty Chicago police officer was killed in a crash in southwest suburban Forest View.

Police say the crash occurred at 2:40 a.m. Sunday on the southbound exit of the Stevenson Expressway at Central Avenue.

The officer, who was on a motorcycle, was stopped at a red light.

As it turned green he started to take off and a vehicle driving north hit his bike.

The officer was taken to Loyola University Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Forest View police say the driver is in custody and charges are pending.
