Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan to have surgery on thumb
LAKE FOREST – A nightmare of a Monday got an extra dose of bad news on early Tuesday afternoon.
In a surprise to many John Fox announced that linebacker Danny Trevathan will undergo surgery for a thumb injury on Tuesday that will take him out of the lineup. Fox did say the surgery will not be season-ending.
Against the Eagles on Monday night Trevathan didn’t appear to be injured on any particular play and Fox didn’t point out specifically when the thumb injury took place. Trevathan had four solo tackles in the 29-14 loss and spoke with reporters in the locker room after the game.
The fifth-year linebacker signed with the Bears this offseason after spending four years with the Denver Broncos. Trevathan was expected to strengthen the middle of the Bears’ linebacking corps along with Jerrell Freeman, who was signed away from the Colts this offseason as well.
In two games with the Bears Trevathan has 15 tackles along with a sack against the Texans.
