CHICAGO – With the division well in hand late in the summer and early fall, many Cubs fans turned their attention to the postseason roster.

Who would Joe Maddon choose to start the team’s games in the National League Division Series? Five strong starters are at the manager’s disposal for the five-game series and many began to speculate who he would choose.

As things played out through the end of the season it became clear just how things might shake out. Indeed that’s how Maddon was thinking, too.

On Tuesday the Cubs manager announced his starting rotation for the first round of the playoffs against either the Mets or the Giants. Jon Lester will get the start in Game 1 at Wrigley Field on Friday, while Kyle Hendricks gets the ball on Saturday for Game 2.

Jake Arrieta will start the Cubs’ first road game of the postseason next Monday in Game 3 and, if necessary, John Lackey will pitch in Game 4.
