CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks start their new season Wednesday against the St. Louis Blues at the United Center.

The Blues eliminated the Hawks from the playoffs just a few months ago.

Head coach Joel Quenneville surprised the media Tuesday, saying Andrew Desjardins will be out four-to-six weeks with a lower body injury, most likely stemming from a blocked shot in Saturday's preseason finale.

Andrew Shaw is gone but there are six Rookies on this year's roster. Vincent Hinostroza, Tyler Motte, Ryan Hartman, Nick Schmaltz, Gustav Forsling and Michal Kempny all practiced with the team  and appear to be, at least, starting the season on the big league roster.

A one-game suspension is keeping veteran defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson out of the lineup.

Game time is 7 p.m.
