CHICAGO — A violent start to the weekend in parts of Chicago, with more than a dozen people shot — five of them killed.
The latest homicide took place on the North Side just before 9 p.m. Friday night in West Rogers Park. A 26-year-old man was outside in the 6000 block of North Talman when group of people walked up and fired shots, hitting the man in the chest, according to Chicago Police. He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was later pronounced dead.
One man is dead and six others are wounded after a mass shooting in East Garfield Park. A group of people were standing in the 3300 block of West Maypole at about 8:15 p.m. on Friday when someone driving by in a black vehicle opened fire, according to police. Three men took themselves to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. They all suffered gunshot wounds to the arms and legs. Another man was taken with them and later pronounced dead.
Two others were taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition — a 31-year-old man shot in the left arm and a 22-year-old woman shot in the right foot. Another woman suffered a graze wound to her face, but was not taken to a hospital.
In South Austin, two men were shot and killed just before 8 p.m. Friday night. The men were standing by a car near Congress Parkway and Central Avenue when another car drove up and someone inside opened fire, according to police. An 18-year-old man was hit in the head. Both victims were pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.
