Cook County Board President seeks second term

CHICAGO — Toni Preckwinkle thinks she may have an idea on how to pass her proposed beverage tax.

The Cook County Board President wants to give each board member $500,000 to spend as they see fit on projects in their communities, according to the Chicago Tribune.

It’s not a new idea — Mayor Rahm Emanuel reportedly hands out money to Chicago aldermen for projects in their wards.

Such a move could build support for Preckwinkle’s budget, which includes a tax on sugary drinks.
