1 dead, 2 hospitalized after shooting leads to crash

CHICAGO – One person is dead, and two others hurt, including a 5-year-old, following a shooting and crash on Chicago’s South Side this afternoon.

The crash happened near 71st and Morgan.

Witnesses say the driver of a jeep was shot and killed behind the wheel.

Police say the 31-year-old was dropping off a passenger when someone approached and opened fire hitting him in the chest.
The victim tried to drive away but crashed into at least two cars. His passenger, a 21-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.

A 63-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy were inside one of the cars and both were hospitalized.

Police say their injuries are not life threatening.

Police continue to investigate.

There have been no arrests.
