Plane slides off runway after landing at O’Hare

CHICAGO - A plane arriving in Chicago from balmy Orlando, FL slid off the runway after landing at O'Hare airport early Sunday morning, as bitterly cold temperatures cause hazardous conditions on the roads - and on the runways.

Just after 1 a.m. Sunday, United Airlines Flight 441 from Orlando International Airport turned to taxi, and one of the tires went off the pavement, officials say. Passengers had to be bused into the terminal, but thankfully there were no injuries.

Inside the airport, a number of passengers slept on cots overnight after their flights were delayed or cancelled. Hundreds of flights were canceled Saturday, and as of 9:00 a.m. Sunday, 173 flights were canceled at O'Hare and 28 flights were canceled at Midway.

Still, compared to last Sunday, when there were more than 1,100 cancellations at O'Hare and 165 at Midway, travelers' chances of getting out Sunday are much better than last weekend, so far.
