Tornado Watch issued for central and northern IL, Chicago area

CHICAGO — The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for the parts of northern and central Illinois, including the Chicago area, as well as parts of northwest Indiana.

The Tornado Watch remains in effect until 10 p.m.

According to the NWS, scattered thunderstorms can be expected through mid to late afternoon, that could produce very large hail that is larger than golf ball size. Thunderstorms may continue after dark and severe storms are likely. There is also an elevated storm risk due to the incoming storms.

The threat of damaging winds and tornadoes exists primarily along and south of I-88, according to the NWS.
