BERWYN, Ill. -- The deaths of an elderly couple found dead in their Berwyn home Friday morning are being investigated as a homicide, police said.

The bodies of 70-year-old Tommie Moore and 67-year-old Ira Moore were discovered at 31st and Oak Park Avenue after a neighbor spotted something suspicious while taking out the trash. He found the elderly couple and called the police.

Police say both had been shot in the head, and Tommie Moore was also stabbed multiple times in the abdomen.

Ira Moore's aunt said that the husband was a double amputee army veteran and was confined to a wheelchair. His wife of 20 years, Tommie Moore, reportedly suffered from dementia.

The aunt says she does not know of any enemies the couple may have had.

Community activist Andrew Holmes is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in the case.

Police have yet to identify a motive for the killing, and have no one in custody.
