SCHILLER PARK, Ill. -- Charges are expected to be filed against a man who was pulled from the Des Plaines River in Schiller Park Thursday.
Police say the man is believed to be one of a group of people reportedly breaking into cars early Thursday morning. Officers learned of his whereabouts through a phone tip and began chasing the man on foot.
That's when police say the man fell into the river. He was stuck beneath a culvert in the river and was unconscious for a while. A River Grove sergeant jumped into the river after the suspect and was able to keep him above water.
The Schiller Park fire department arrived and helped get the suspect out of the water. They then transported the suspect to the hospital.
Police say they recovered a stolen vehicle, weapons and some stolen items from other vehicles.
