CHICAGO -- Chicago police are looking for the armed robbers who shot and wounded a 73-year-old man in the West Lawn neighborhood.
It happened just before 6:30 a.m. Thursday as the elderly victim was walking on the sidewalk in the 6100 block of South Kenneth Avenue.
According to police he resisted armed robbers who jumped out of a passing SUV.
Much of the incident was captured on a nearby home security system.
The security video captured the 73-year-old victim as he walked northbound on Kenneth Thursday morning.
A black SUV passes him by and two men in hoodies jump out. As the SUV backed up the victim was shot in the stomach. The two offenders are seen getting back into the SUV as it speeds away.
Soon after a resident of the block ran over to help the elderly man. Adrian Sanchez also called 911.
The victim was rushed to Christ Hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition.
Area Central detectives have been searching the neighborhood for possible clues or links to other robberies. They are also checking other area cameras for possible images of the suspects and that black SUV.
The identity of the elderly man who was shot has not yet been released.
