Former President Obama kicks off foundation’s leadership summit in Chicago

CHICAGO – Former President Barack Obama and a panel of civic leaders kicked off a leadership summit hosted by the Obama Foundation at McCormick Place Tuesday afternoon.

Hundreds of civic leaders from 60 countries and 27 U.S. cities are attending the two-day event. Prince Harry is also scheduled to talk on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday, former first lady Michelle Obama is expected to speak, and Chance the Rapper will deliver a special performance at the new Wintrust Arena.

The event is closed to the public, but you can watch the opening session in the video above, and the other speaking sessions are streaming live on the Obama Foundation website.

The inaugural summit is among several activities the Obama Foundation is planning, including a fellowship for young leaders. The foundation is raising funds for the Obama Presidential Center planned for Chicago’s South Side. Construction is expected to take four years. Photos displayed at a September community meeting about the center show a test kitchen, athletic center, and recording studio as possible features.
