Hundreds filled a South Holland high school football field to remember one of their own tonight.  Not a student, but a security guard who died while trying to break up a fight there last week.

It was a heartfelt goodbye for a guy they affectionately referred to as “Hulk.”

Thorton High School students and staff came together for a vigil after Richard Cowser died while trying to break up a fight between two females on the school’s campus. He fell against a locker and never gained consciousness again.

Following Cowser’s death, the school has vowed to make crisis resolution training and discipline a new focal point. While the security guard’s cause of death was ruled inconclusive, the incident that led up to his fall has forced District 205 to address violence among their student population.
