The chairman of the Illinois Republican Party says reports of efforts to bring the 2016 GOP National Convention to Chicago are premature.
The Sun-Times reported Saturday that GOP leaders were looking to make a bid, but party chairman Jack Dorgan says it’s just “loose talk” among a “loose group” of Republicans and it’s not been sanctioned by the state party.
The last GOP Convention in Chicago was in 1960.

Chicago also hosted the 1996 Democratic National Convention.
