The 6-year-old boy who was mauled by a dog at a birthday party on the South Side last night is improving.

Family of Armani McKinnis released a picture of him and says he is feeling better.

A pitbull attacked the boy at a friend's house at 74th and Champlain. It attacked Armani, biting his face and leg. The adults at the party acted fast to stop it and hit the dog with what they could find.

The dogs took off and Armani was rushed to Comer Children's hospital where he underwent plastic surgery early this morning.

Armani is still in the ICU. He's expected to spend the next few days here at the hospital before being discharged later this week.

The dogs’ owner has turned them into Animal Care and Control. According to Armani's family, the dogs are now at a shelter and being tested for rabies.
