Teacher charged, accused of sexually abusing former student

DOLTON, Ill -- A suburban Spanish teacher has been charged and accused of having inappropriate contact with one of his former students.

Jesus Sanchez, 44, is currently in jail and accused of sexual abuse. The victim is 17-years-old and about to begin her senior year.

The alleged incident took place outside her home in Dolton, after Sanchez talked to the girl at her job at Portillos in Tinley Park, about 20 minutes before the end of her shift on July 1.

“The teacher was there with two other students, who did some work at his home in Orland Park,” Riley Rogers, Dolton Mayor and interim police chief, said. “The offender recognized the victim as one of his former students.  He asked if she wanted a ride home. He told her he had two other students in the car he was going to give a ride home to.”

“Subsequently he gave her a ride home along with two other students. He dropped the male students off first in another town.  (They then headed) to the home of the victim where they sat in the car for a while and had a discussion. She got ready to exit the car. He at that time grabbed her and fondled her in the chest area.”

Rogers said Sanchez teaches Spanish and coaches freshman basketball at Thornwood High School in South Holland.

Since the allegations were made last month, the school district is now in the process of firing Sanchez. Other charges are pending which may include unlawful restraint.  He's due in Markham bond court Wednesday.
