CHICAGO -- A major winter storm is expected Wednesday, bringing near blizzard conditions near Lake Michigan and other open areas.

High winds are already causing huge waves to crash along Lake Shore Drive at Fullerton.

A Lakeshore Flood Warning is in effect for Cook County from noon Wednesday through 4 a.m. Thursday.

Strong northerly winds gusting to 50 mph will allow waves to build to 10 to 14 feet across the northeast Illinois shores of Lake Michigan, resulting in minor lakeshore flooding and beach erosion.  Expect the highest waves Wednesday night.
