PARK RIDGE, Ill. — A 7-year-old girl who died suddenly while attending a suburban cheerleading camp died of natural causes.

An autopsy determined that Kate Babich, of Park Ridge, suffered from a congenital heart disease called Ebstein’s anomaly.

She was attending a cheerleading camp at Maine South High School in June when she collapsed.

A trainer performed CPR and paramedics were called,  but she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Kate was a first grader at Field Elementary School.

“Kate is known as an inspired learner, a leader and a good friend to everyone in her class. I know her classmates and Field staff will miss her dearly,” District 64 Supt. Laurie Heinz said in the statement.
