JOLIET, Ill. — Police took a man into custody following a standoff on the Harrah’s Casino parking deck Thursday morning.

Part of downtown Joliet was blocked off near the casino as police negotiators talked to a despondent person in the area. A SWAT team was also on hand.

The man surrendered to police about 11 a.m. with his hands up. A gun was recovered from his car, according to police.

Harrah’s remained open, and police said the suspect has nothing to do with the casino. A school nearby, Joliet Central, was reportedly on a soft lockdown.
