CHICAGO – A pregnant woman and a man remain hospitalized after they were wounded in a shooting on the South Side Monday afternoon.

23-year-old Crystal Myer and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Albert Moore were shot near 53rd and Sangamon around 3:30 p.m. in the city’s Back of the Yard neighborhood.

They were taken to the hospital and underwent surgery Monday night.  Crystal is in serious condition.  Albert is in critical condition.

Police say the suspect approached on foot from the rear of the house then bursts through a gangway and open fired.

Albert was hit as he sat on the front porch.  Crystal was standing by her car.

There was another shooting about a block away from the scene yesterday. Crystal knew the 19-year-old victim was very upset and vocal about the shooting.   Community activist Andrew Holmes suggests this attack may have been an act of retaliation.

“We do know that she was down there yesterday and she was terribly upset because this individual was shot multiple times,” Holmes said.

A relative says that crystal was due to deliver her baby boy at the end of the month and that the young couple was planning to move to Iowa, to escape the violence in Chicago.
