CHICAGO -- Ten people are in the hospital after three cars were in a chain-reaction crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes of I-94 at 93rd Street just after midnight Tuesday.

Seven people are in critical condition, and three others are in fair condition.

The victims were transported to different hospitals. Their genders and ages have not been released.

One witness says it started when a car was hit while going in reverse onto the highway.

At least two children were taken to the hospitals, but both appeared to be OK.

All lanes on the Dan Ryan are back open.
