CHICAGO -- Chicago police are warning Magnificent Mile shoppers to be alert for a violent group of robbers.

Four times in the first 11 days of November, people have been confronted and robbed on or near Michigan Avenue in the afternoon hours of the day.

Two of the holdups took place in the 700 and 800 blocks of N. Michigan Avenue. A third happened in the 900 block of N. State St., and the other robbery happened outside the shopping district in the 1200 block of N. Larrabee.

Police say in one holdup, one of the robbers pulled a gun, and some of the victims say the men resorted to violence when they were confronted. Police have not released a description of the men.

Business owners hope the violence don't deter shoppers during the busy holiday shopping season.

The police warning comes as the city prepares to celebrate its Festival of Lights on the Mag Mile. It kicks off in earnest with a Michigan Ave. parade at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
