CHICAGO -- A 17-year-old boy is hospitalized Friday morning after being shot in the chest while sitting in the back seat of a SUV.

The shooting happened shortly after midnight at 18th and Union, near the University of Illinois at Chicago campus, in the city's University Village neighborhood.

When the teen and others in the car heard gunshots, they drove about two miles from the scene to the 1800 block of South Calumet Avenue. That's when the driver realized the teen had been shot.

The teen was transported to Northwestern Hospital where his condition was stabilized.

No one is in custody.
