CHICAGO - He may not be a full-time writer anymore, but Fred Mitchell is always a kicker at heart.

He spent his college days as a kicker for Wittenberg University in Ohio and now gives out the Fred Mitchell Kicker Award. That's given to the player at that position at a non-FBS school who succeeds on the field as well as off it.

This year the award went to Matt Davis of UNC-Pembroke, who hit 84 percent of his field goal tries including 6-of-7 from 50 yards and beyond.

On Tuesday's Sports Feed, Mitchell came on the show to discuss the award with Jarrett Payton and Josh Frydman. He also took some time to talk some other football, including the Bears and the death of Rashaan Salaam.
