LYNWOOD -- Divers and rescue workers searched for survivors in a car sunk into the near-freezing waters of a retention pond in Lynwood Sunday afternoon.

According to the Lynwood Fire Department, they received a call at 12:35 p.m. Sunday that a car went into the pond and there may have been two people inside.

Divers and rescue workers worked for around five hours to see if there were any passengers in the vehicle, but lack of visibility in the deep pond hindered their efforts. They were also unable to identify who the vehicle belongs to.

Rescue workers concluded their search around 5 p.m. after conditions became too dangerous to continue on. An officer and a driver were transported from the scene for medical issues, but both have been treated and released.
