Police: 1 injured in police-involved shooting in Gage Park

CHICAGO -- A police officer shot a man in Gage Park Saturday evening, just steps from a child's birthday party.

The shooting occurred at 56th & Artesian before 9 p.m. Police said they saw a group of people in Gage Park who were drinking and also saw that one of them had a handgun.

Police said there was an armed confrontation in the park. That confrontation led to the police shooting a 32-year-old Hispanic male in the head.

The man suffered a graze wound and was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. No police officers were hurt.

The entire incident occurred just steps away from a 4-year-old's birthday party. Witnesses said there were kids in the park during the time of the incident.

Neighbors say only one shot was fired tonight.

Police did recover a weapon.
