CALUMET CITY, Ill. -- The FBI has released dramatic video of a child being kidnapped in broad daylight in Calumet City.

Police say they did not make the video public before Friday because it was an ongoing investigation. But now they’re releasing more information and they need the public’s help.

In the video, a man is seen standing by a red Ford Explorer parked in the alley off 153rd Street near Burnham. Police say that’s 38-year-old Bryan Protho.

A young girl, who is blurred in this video, walks towards him on the sidewalk. He grabs her, puts her in the car, and drives off.

According to court documents, Protho sexually assaulted the girl in an alley, before she escaped.

The girl jumped out of the car and flagged someone down, who helped her call police.

Police arrested Protho one week after the kidnapping on December 27th.

Court records show they sifted through surveillance video and eventually tracked down the car at a hotel in Lansing, Illinois which let them to Protho.

Protho is charged with kidnapping, but the FBI is still asking for the public’s help. Anyone with any information about the man in the video or the red Ford Explorer involved is asked to contact police. They believe he could have been involved in other crimes.
