CHICAGO -- Two people were shot after what police said began as a well-being check on the Near West Side. One of the people shot was shot by a police officer.
When police arrived at the 2000 block of West Washington Boulevard Wednesday evening around 6:30 p.m., they heard gunshots from within the property. Police said it was a 19-year-old who was committing a home invasion.
The 23-year-old female victim was able to call someone for help. The person they called phoned 911.
The woman was shot by the 19-year-old who in turn was shot by the responding officer.
The offender was shot in the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown.
The woman is in serious condition.
No police officers were injured.
The officer is on 30-day desk duty as the investigation continues.
