19-year-old shot by officer during burglary response in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES, Ill. — A 19-year-old man was shot by police during a burglary response in the suburbs.

The 19-year-old is now hospitalized after being shot by a St. Charles police officer near Peck Road and Voltaire Lane around noon on Thursday.

The initial call to police came in as a burglary when officers arrived, they saw a man running from the scene.

When he stopped, he showed police that he had a gun. Officers then shot him.

A friend of the offender said the man in question sent him a Snapchat photo of himself and a gun and a liquor bottle saying that he was depressed and that he could not take it anymore.

“He Snapchatted me earlier today basically what he was going to do,” the friend said. “Around 10 o’clock he said he was either going to be in the hospital or have the cops try to shoot him. He has a lot of depression and anxiety. I guess today just wasn’t his day. He couldn’t handle it anymore”

Two responding officers were taken to the hospital for cautionary reasons.

The incident now being investigated by Illinois State Police.
