Police investigating after 3 people found dead in Winfield home

WINFIELD, Ill. — Police say three bodies were found inside a home in west suburban Winfield Monday morning.

A neighbor called 911  around 6 a.m. after hearing a dog barking in a home in the 500 block of Jefferson, near Manchester.

“The dog was sitting there shaking,” Earls said.  “I looked in the house.  All the lights were on nothing, no activity.  I was pounding on the door, ringing the doorbell.  We called their house.”

Eventually her husband looked in the window.

“That's when he saw Tom and his son Carl on the floor and blood,” Earls said.

Earls tells WGN News Tom and Nancy Clinkenbeard lived in the home with their adult son and have been here for more than 30 years.

They are described as a generous, sweet couple who opened their vegetable garden to neighbors.

But just two days ago, Earls says police were called to the home because of a domestic disturbance in the back yard.

“Apparently there had been come sort of fight on Saturday. I wasn't aware of it but my other daughter said there was yelling going on.”

The elderly couple's grandson arrived this afternoon, visibly shaken.

The police have not officially identified the bodies.  Police say they believe it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
