2 teens killed in high-speed crash in area known for drag racing

CHICAGO — A high speed, head-on collision left two teens dead and two people injured in an area known for drag racing on the Far South Side.

Police say Zachery Ryan Tomak, 16, and Michael Joseph Clark, 17, of Portage, IN were in a Subaru speeding north on South Doty in the Pullman Industrial Quarter when they hit a Chrysler head-on near 120th Street around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

The teens were rushed to University of Chicago Hospital, and were later pronounced dead. The Chrysler's 21-year-old driver and a 19-year-old woman in the passenger seat were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.

Police say while the area is known for drag racing, there's no evidence the two cars were racing prior to the crash.

The major accidents unit is now investigating to determine what happened.
