2 seriously injured in Dan Ryan shooting

CHICAGO -- Two people are seriously injured after a flurry of gunfire overnight on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. Monday in the outbound lanes of the expressway at Garfield Boulevard.

According to Illinois State police, a black car drove up alongside a white GMC SUV in the express lanes and someone inside started shooting at the SUV.  The black car fled the scene.  The SUV ran into the median wall.  First responders could be seen treating someone on the shoulder of the road and removing someone else from the vehicle.

The family of one of the victims, a husband and father, tells WGN's Courtney Gousman that he is being kept alive by life support.

Witnesses reported hearing as many as 30 shots.

WGN's camera crew on the scene counted 57 evidence markers on the pavement as police looked for shell casings and other evidence.

The southbound express lanes were shut down until shortly after 7 a.m. State police released no other information.

CTA Red Line trains were stopped while the tracks were checked for a possible weapon.
